GISDA will check if participant is in a Communities First area, in which we need to check they are not engaged with a Communities For Work project.

The Project
In brief the project will focus primarily on preparing young people for sustainable employment in the future. Our approach is to work holistically with the individual, tailoring provisions around their needs. We will also work closely with referrers where necessary to avoid duplication of services and to ensure that we provide the most appropriate services for participants.

Everyone will start on strand 1 with a project worker who will assess their readiness for work and support the young person to develop pre-employability skills.
We offer a range of group courses and individual sessions covering a wide range of areas. As well as the regular CV building, work tasters, volunteering opportunities and interview technique sessions associated with pre employability we will look at soft skills such as confidence building and anger management and general work place skills as appropriate to the individual. Where appropriate participants may benefit from budgeting, maintaining a tenancy, literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and digital safety sessions. Sessions are generally hands on and may be embedded in the arts, creative writing, music, cooking, Theatre Forum or outdoors sessions.

Once the participant has decided upon a suitable area of work we will liaise with appropriate employers and provide a paid work placement for the participant. Both the employer and the young person will be supported throughout . Wages will be minimum wage and will be paid by GISDA.
Once the young person starts work they will be on strand 2. Strand 2 can only start once the participant turns 18 but a suitable placement can be sought before hand.

Work Placements:
Part time 16 hours per week
Full time 35 hours per week
16 week and 26 week placements offered on part or full time basis.

Referrals made to:
hyfforddiant@gisda.co.uk
Once a referral made we will do an eligibility start form with the young person, referrers are welcome to attend this. Support will continue throughout the work placement.
